  • You no longer have to fill out hours of paperwork to pay your taxes or get a business license.
  • New medicine and affordable healthcare have added 40 years to your life.

Bad policy is the only thing separating our present from that future.

Regular People Are Struggling Economically

Housing

Housing is the single largest contributor to the affordability crisis in American cities. In 1970, ~3.5 years of work as a bus driver would have brought in enough income to buy a median American home. In 2025, you would have had to be a senior software developer to save at the same rate.

It doesn’t have to be this way. From 1950 to 1970, wages and property value rose at about the same rate. But as new housing policies started artificially restricting the housing supply in the late 60s by making it harder to build, home prices shot up dramatically, and they’ve climbed steadily for the last 65 years. In 1970, the median first time home buyer was 29. Today, she is 40. Now, with 1 in 2 Americans spending more than a third of their paycheck on rent, and with homelessness prevalent in every major city, the housing crisis has reached a breaking point.
